NURS 6756 & 6757: Advanced Practicum for Primary Care PNPs

Welcome to the next step in the journey...your next clinical course. You will continue to focus your time on the primary care of pediatric patients but this fall you will be in a variety of settings! This clinical is taken concurrently with NURS6487, Care of the Child with Minor Acute Illness.

The College of Nursing graduate clinical course series has four progressive levels that correspond to the clinical course numbers. While the majority of your effort (and grade) in this course will take place in and around your clinical practicum site (including patient documentation and student performance evaluations), we have incorporated several active learning activities to complement your clinical encounters and encourage critical thinking. These activities will occur both during and in between our scheduled clinical conferences.

You are now longer an observer. It is expected that you jump right into this new semester. You should be able to complete an entire pediatric clinic visit without much help. This term will offer you with new challenges related to acute illness in your patients. You will continue work in conjunction with your preceptor to provide the best in pediatric health care and this term, we expect you to continue to refine your clinical decision making skills to determine a differential diagnosis, identify the pieces of data you will need to narrow your thinking, and identify the appropriate diagnosis. This term you will also be responsible for developing a plan of care that fits the diagnosis, the patient, and the family.

Your first clinical conference is Thursday, August 31. This is a face-to-face session and the classroom has not yet been assigned. Please notify your faculty as soon as possible if you are unable to attend this session as planned.
