While we won't spend much time talking about the monarchs of England, they were important to the history of the American colonies. The trials and tribulations of the rulers of England often led to internal political problems or external wars that spilled over into the colonies. For example, the desire of Henry VIII (pictured right) to have a son to succeed him led him to break with the Roman Catholic church and establish the Protestant Church of England. It also led him to marry six wives.
I have created a handout that summarizes the monarchs of England before and during the time of British colonization of the Americas, from 1500-1800. Click here to access the handout English Monarchs.
This activity is a quiz based on information from the English Monarchs handout that will introduce you to some of the key players and key issues in the history of England before and during the time of the American colonies.
As a reminder, activities are open for two weeks only. When the activity is a quiz (such as this one), you can take the quiz as often as you wish; Canvas will keep your highest score.
